Using Social Media And Youth Marketing
Using Social Media And Youth Marketing Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. Social media marketing is a growing industry and Selling brands online can be a tricky task, but done right it can be quite successful. Youth Marketing is a term used in marketing and advertising industry to describe activities to communicate with young people, in the age range of 12 to 34. This youth market can further be classified into Tween Marketing, targeting people in the 8 to 12 year-old range, Teen Marketing, targeting people age 13 to 19, College Marketing, targeting college-age consumers, typically ages 18 to 21, Young Adult Marketing, targeting young professionals, typically ages 22 and above. The youth market is critical because of the demographics buying power as the members in this group have huge influences on the spending of family members. In addition, teens and young adults often set trends that are adopted by other demographic groups. DISCUSSION So in terms of being smart about social media marketing, a brand needs to be smart and ready to be held accountable for its product but its interaction within the social media realm. Social networking and smart phones will play an all-important role in the youth marketing and media trends, as they have become part of the youth lifestyle and culture. The following trends will make it easy to see why they are and will continue to be a dominant force in the youth market: 1.Ã Ã Ã Social media: More youth have become addicted to social networking and more companies targeting the youth through this means, due to its great viral effect. 2.Ã Ã Ã Smartphone: Standard phones cannot fully cater to the online and social networking craving of the youth and, as more companies and universities introduce policies that limit the use of social networking sites during the day/working hours, this has led to more youth jumping onto the Smartphone bandwagon as a means of countering these restrictions. And these phones can be used for various kinds of marketing. 3.Ã Ã Ã Apps : With Apple alone having over 300 000 applications to choose from over one million apps downloaded in one day and with all the new apps for the tablets, we can expect 2011 to be a year of apps. 4.Ã Ã Ã BBM: BlackBerry Messenger has taken the youth market by storm. The youth love sharing and staying connected and this is what BBM does, enabling them to share through instant messaging (IM). 5.Ã Ã Ã Mobile commerce: The youth are getting big on cell phone banking and making payments via their cell phones. 6.Ã Ã Ã Mobile learning: The increase in the number of youth with Smartphone and the increase in the time spent online will lead to more businesses ,institutions and educational heads looking into conveying some of their products and educational material through cell phones 7.Ã Ã Ã Online advertising: Online advertising, targeting the youth, from both local and international perspectives have increased by leaps and bounds. Consequently, we can expect to see an increase in online advertising spend targeting the youth. 8.Ã Ã Ã Corporate social websites: There will be a rise in website integration for companies or brands that are targeting the youth market. Previously, websites were all about the company; however, the new shift has seen a change to cater to the dialogue with the youth and encourage them mostly to follow through Twitter feeds and connect through Facebook fan pages. 9.Ã Ã Ã Blogging: We will see the rise in the number of youth bloggers, who will post opinions about products and brands, and, with this kind of social activism will go on the rise, and also word of mouth along with viral marketing will show its importance. This is really going to keep a lot of companies on their feet. 10.Ã Ã Ã Tablets: All youths who are tech-savvy and could afford, the likes of the Apple iPad and the Blackberry Playbook will give rise to the social media marketing. With Hewlett-Packard announcing its own webOS-based PalmPad, we can be sure to expect a decrease in price of the gadgets on the local market and more youth being able to afford and taking up these gadgets. 11.Ã Ã Ã Wifi hot spots: Wifi hotspots will attract more youth as they strive to stay connected, even when they are out and about. We are therefore going to see more cafes and restaurants catering to this by enabling wifi on their premises. 7 key youth marketing trends to look out for: #1Free is a viable business model: Given the increasingly challenging task of reaching out to young consumers, more brands consider the free route (eg ad supported or cross-selling).Youth indifference may well prove to be a brands most significant cost factor so offering a service for free with the promise of cross-selling related services may well provide the first tentative steps in addressing that challenge. #2 Transparency: Some of the innovative brands, however, are going long on being transparent about their values and mistakes when communicating with youth. Consumers are tired of being both whitewashed and stonewalled. In an era when youth expect access and brands are willing to provide it, the company CEO that appears on YouTube confessing theyd screwed up may lose a few investor friends, but wins the long term hearts and minds of the consumer. #3 Facebook fatigue: Its now all about 30 somethings in the world of Facebook. Youth are already exploring new avenues more relevant to their lifestyle such as Bebo. Do we yet have a student specific SNS?MySpaces partnership with MTV to platform young musical talent from the social network is a PR victory in the face of a Facebook population disillusioned with their parents and corporates hijacking the party. #4 The rise of the moderates: Individually, most students have a moderate and parochial political outlook these days, more concerned with the price of their Bacardi Coke than any ethical questions that may come served with it. But now this swell of moderate opinion has become a determined movement. #5 Inner circle brands: Once young consumers were thought to be naÃÆ'Ã ¯ve and persuadable. Then they were savvy, fickle and cynical to brand messages.Recent research by Opinionpanel discovered a maximum of twenty brands that students were willing to be Facebook But there is also space in the inner circle for maverick brands who dont give a damn for high-level marketing approaches. In #6 Its cool to be a suit: In the eyes of the young, businesspeople were once the least cool people in the world. Now its okay to want to be a suit. #7 Youth turn off the box: The current generation of young consumers is perhaps the first that have had real choice in their media consumption. TV, is increasingly being squeezed out by other distractions. Facebook, MySpace, WII, homework, after-school activities, commuting and just good old hanging out with friends compete with TV for youth attention. And its not just the decreasing time spent watching TV, its the quality of that time. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 25% of high school students were actively involved in another form of media (playstation, computer etc) whilst watching TV. Ways to target Youth using Social Media Make the message fit the venue-advertising usually involves one way communication and marketing involves creating, communicating and delivering. The goal is to get the eyeball and attention and keep it until the sales pitch for a product or a service is received. Social media involves interaction among its users. The message should not be a hard sell; it needs to get people talking. Be familiar with social networks-To understand the taste of youth and their liking it is very important to go to different groups and see what the users are talking about and how they say it. Know what groups are the most popular with youth and learn how they interact. Learn the common terms that are used. Use links to ads to spread advertisement messages-dont fill the posts with hard sell advertisements. Use low key banner ads on the social page and have all links going to the companys main pages that youth are interested in. Join groups-to get some exposure, you will need to join groups or become fans of groups that the target audience are joining. Post and get to know the members. People are more likely to listen about a product or service from someone they feel like they know before they listen to a stranger. For e.g.: If there is a page dedicated to Airtel on facebook and one of the target groups member is a member of the group as well then it becomes easy to understand and know his likings and temperament. Size doesnt matter-it doesnt matter if you are a small business or a large business, you can use social medias to target youth. As being a part of social media doesnt require much investments.Give them something of value, entertaining, and fun. Any size business is capable of that. Post pictures-post fun and entertaining pictures that relate to the product or service. Encourage others on the page to do the same. This kind of activities garner lots of attention thus creating potential fan following. Be active on the social media page-there is usually someone on staff who will be willing to be paid to get on Facebook or other social medial for about a half hour or so daily and keep up on comments. Choose someone who is familiar with how social media works and can speak the same language as the youth audience that is being targeted. CONCLUSION The fitness landscape that determines success in marketing to young consumers is changing. 10 years ago, the TV provided the de facto advertising channel to win the hearts and minds of this often difficult to reach demographic. Since 2007 alone, the rise of social networking, flat rate data plans both on mobile and internet as well as a widespread growth in niche media content means that marketers are now increasingly challenged when it comes to both communicating with and understanding youth. Young peoples relationship with technology is different to what many marketers might assume. Though immersed in tech from an early age, Circuits of Cool found the majority dont even notice technology is there, and only 20 percent can really be classified as tech lovers. They dont use technological jargon such as Web 2.0 and social media, as these terms are primarily used by adults to categorize and define the shifts in trends. They simply use music download and connect with friends to refer to these activities and behaviors.Linear TV is the critical channel for introducing people to new things they werent searching for in the first place. TVs word-of-mouth (WOM) effect is definitely complementary to other new digital platforms: 47 percent of youth surveyed IM each other about what is on TV right now. One can argue that for marketing messages to cut through the clutter, strategies must focus on identifying a need-based behavioral pattern rather than simply incorporating digital technology as panacea. To effectively behavioral target this group, the platform must expand beyond current online domain to become a true transmedia to match a copy-and-paste consumption of mixing on- and offline media.

Jake Barnes as Hemingway Code Hero in The Sun Also Rises Essays
Jake Barnes as Hemingway Code Hero in The Sun Also Rises à à à à The portrayal of heroism is an essential aspect of literature, and every writer delineates his heroes through their ability to triumph over adversity. Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) consistently defined and distinguished his heroes through an echoing set of characteristics that form a characteristic "Hemingway Code Hero." A Code Hero is one that distinguishes himself by his ability to demonstrate grace under pressure, to adhere to a strong set of personal values and, most importantly, to live life to the fullest. In Hemingway's first novel, The Sun Also Rises (1926), the protagonist Jakes Barnes serves as a controversial example of a Code Hero. Jake fits into the category of a Hemingway Code Hero because he embodies the most significant characteristics of a quintessential Code Hero: he demonstrates his manhood through the ability to endure pain with dignity, he imposes order upon his chaotic world through personal values, and he attempts to enjoy the simple pleasures of life to add meaning to his existence. à à à à à à à à à à à à Hemingway characterized the Code Hero as "a man who lives correctly, following the ideals of honor, courage, and endurance in a world that is sometimes chaotic, often stressful, and always painful" (Dwiggins). The most essential characteristic of a Code Hero is the capacity to exemplify grace under pressure, and Hemingway continually placed his characters into unfortunate, and often tragic, situations to test their ability to survive. Hemingway's primary focus was therefore on the strained individual and his response to adversity. ... ... code, and to embrace every opportunity to its full potential are the vital characteristics that typify a Code Hero. Jake Barnes in The Sun Also Rises relentlessly strives to set the societal standard through his stoicism, morality, and action; therefore, his exemplification of these qualities characterizes him as a true Hemingway Code Hero. à Works Cited à Dahiya, Dr. Bhim S. Beltane Essay Beltane is the last of the three spring fertility festivals. Beltane is the second principal Celtic festival (the other being Samhain). Celebrated approximately halfway between spring equinox and the midsummer (Summer Solstice). Beltane traditionally marked the arrival if summer in ancient times. At Beltane the Pleiades star cluster rises just before sunrise on the morning horizon. The Pleiades is a cluster of seven closely placed stars, the seven sisters, in the constellation of Taurus, near his shoulder. When looking for the Pleiades with the naked eye, remember it looks like a tiny dipper-shaped pattern of six moderately bright star in the constellation of Taurus. It stands very low in the east-northeast sky for just a few minutes before sunrise. Beltane, and its counterpart Samhain, divide the year into its two primary seasons, winter (Dark Part) and summer (Light Part). As Samhain is about honouring Death, Beltane is about honouring Life. It is the time when the sun is fully released from his bondage of winter and able to rule over summer and life once again. It is a time of "no time" when the veils between the two worlds are at their thinnest. No time is when the two worlds intermingle and unite and the magic abounds! It is the time when the Faeries return from their winter respite, carefree and full of faery mischief and faery delight. On the night before Beltane, in times past, folks would place rowan branches at their windows and doors for protection, many otherworldly occurrences could transpire during this time of "no time". Traditionally on the Isle of Man, the youngest member of the family gathers primroses on the eve before Beltane and throws the flowers at the door of the home for protection. In Ireland it is believed that food left over from May Eve must not be eaten, but rather buried or left as an offering to the faery instead. Much like the tradition of leaving of whatever is not harvested from the fields on Samhain, food on the time of no time is treated with great care. When the veils are so thin it is an extremely magical time, it is said that the Queen of the Faeries rides out on her white horse. Roving about on Beltane eve She will try to entice people away to the Faeryland. Legend has it that if you sit beneath a tree on Beltane night, you may see the Faery Queen or hear the sound of Her horse's bells as She rides through the night.

Alien And Sedition Acts :: essays research papers
ALIEN AND SEDITION ACTS Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã In 1798, when Congress passed both the Alien and Sedition Acts, it was very much constitutional. These acts were definitely in the best interest of America. America was a significantly young nation, at the time, and could not afford to create problems caused by foreigners coming to America. They did not have enough national power to sustain order if everyone was attacking the newly created laws, and many of those rebels being citizens from foreign countries, nevertheless. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã These acts were, of no questions asked, surly constitutional. The Federalist Party presented these acts, later consequently passed by Congress, because they were and fair and just laws in accordance to the nation at that time. For the sake of argument, the nation and government was very inexperienced, and did not know what to expect in their near future. John Adams became the second president of the United States of America, subsequently, having to accept many challenges and responsibilities to fulfill the job in office. He had the task of making sure that the newly founded nation kept running smooth. That is a big burden if there are activities going on in the country that one has no control, nor knowledge of (i.e. foreigners coming into the nation and starting trouble by disrupting the form of government, or having radicals trying to protest and perturb the running government in office-Federalists, at this time). John Adams was smart enough to realize the signif icance of these factors. Thus, taking his duty of President of USA seriously, he, along with the Federalist-controlled Congress, took action to protect the new country. Hence, were the creation and passing of the four, debate-causing laws (Naturalization, Alien, Alien Enemies, and Sedition Acts). Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã These all made sense to be in effect for the time and date because many of the immigrants coming to the USA were Irish exiles (for plotting against British rule), British radicals, and French people (wanting to rebel against Adams). On these grounds, and many more, President Adams and the Federalist-controlled Congress had reason to believe that they had to protect their country from stirring troubles. In view of that, the government was permitted to the authority of deporting or imprisoning any foreigner that he saw fit. This is a very sensible power that the president ought to have had back then, given the particular situation. They also were entitled to enforce such laws to protect against from just any, unintelligent foreigners from intruding in their country to vote and such for legally binding decisions of the nation.

In this paper, we evaluate a set of three medical
In this paper, we evaluate a set of three medical related websites namely www.nln.org for the National league of Nursing, www.nursingworld.org for the American Nursing Association, www.ama-assn.org for the American Medical Association and the https://www.ncsbn.org/index.htm for the National Council for State boards in Nursing. We also evaluate an Archives resource site namely https://www.congress.gov// or the Thomas, the website of the Library of Congress of the United States of America.Prior to presenting the evaluation we briefly describe each website: the purpose of these sites and their current set-up. We then go into the evaluation proper where we analyze the overall content, style and functionality of each site. In the overall content of the websites the quality of the information being presented and the comprehensiveness of the information is assessed. Moreover, how current the information located in the websites and where they were derived or from what authority this informati on was derived is also assessed. Lastly, in evaluating the style and functionality of the sites we take into consideration the layout or the manner content is presented within the sites, ease in navigating the sites, its compatibility with respect to various browsers, information space with respect to advertising pages, and the speed upon which it is accessed through the internet. The first of the sites to be evaluated is www.nursingworld.org, the official website of the American Nursing Association (ANA). Briefly, ââ¬ËANA is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.9 million registered nurses (RNs) (About the American Nurses association,à that advances nursing through imbibing high standards, promoting the economic welfare in their workplace and by proactively lobbying governmental agencies on issues affecting them. For the overall content, the website contains comprehensive and relevant information supportive of the purpose of ANA mentioned pr eviously. The site has sections on information and services, newsroom and nursing issues/programs that sustain continuous support for promoting high standards in the nursing practice. It also has a section for showing their advocacies and initiatives for nursesââ¬â¢ general welfare, with sub-sections directing users to view publications relevant to nurses in the United States. As for the currency of the documents, the documents are up to date with uploaded documents as latest as January 11, 2007 (ââ¬ËPress releases from the American Nurses Associationâ⬠, http://www.nursingworld.org/pressrel/). As for the authority of the documents published, the documents that are published have their corresponding sources accompanying them. All these information are presented in a notably clear and concise fashion. For the style and functionality of the website, the overall layout is easily understandable. The site can be easily navigated and the information is clearly sorted out for easy access, even though the site carries a lot of information it is surprisingly accessible. On the other hand, the address of the site (www.nursingworld.org) is a bit misleading if you were to guess what would be the site of ANA and a name as www.ana.org or www.americannursingassociation.org may have been the better URL.The use of images instead of flash movies may have the decreased the siteââ¬â¢s overall aesthetic impact to the user but without the use of flash movies, the site can then be easily accessible from any computer with varying internet speed with information prompting fast. Lastly for the evaluation of the www.nursingworld.org, the information relative to the advertisements, they are separated clearly in order to reduce the clutter and make browsing easier. The second site is www.ama-assn.org or the American Medical Association (AMA). AMA ââ¬Ëhelps doctors help patients by uniting physicians nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issue sââ¬â¢ (ââ¬ËThe AMA missionââ¬â¢, http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/1815.html). Although it is similar to the initiatives and programs of ANA, AMA has a wider market as it focuses on the entire medical profession. For the overall content of the site, it has similarities as that of the ANA site, with additions of ââ¬Ëprofessional resources sectionââ¬â¢ for medical practitioners and ââ¬Ëmed school ; residency siteââ¬Ë for medical students. Most of the information is up to date except for the annual report is only has the 2005 annual report. In addition, the siteââ¬â¢s information is taken from credible sources, which are also accessible in the site.As for the overall layout of the site, the vast information is batched together in a clear and easily understandable manner such that users can browse through the site easily. The site utilizes flash movies that make the site more appealing and further imbibes to the users the vision and mission of AMA. Apart f rom what was mentioned above, there are however no significant or innovative means of presenting data seen from the ANA and the AMA site. The third website is www.nln.org which is the site for the National League for Nursing (NLN). The purpose of NLN is similar to that of ANA but is slightly varied. According to its purpose (http://www.nln.org/aboutnln/ourmission.htm), the NLN ââ¬Ëadvances excellence in nursing education that prepares the nursing workforce to meet the needs of diverse populations in an ever-changing healthcare environment.ââ¬â¢ This purpose is done through achieving the goals of Nursing education, Faculty development, Research in Nursing Education, Data collection, assessment and evaluation and Public Policy. For the overall content of the site, information pertinent to the goals mentioned above is clearly visible. Users who wish to participate in achieving one of the goals or for anyone who would just want to browse through the site can easily go to a specific heading and see its related sections. In terms of the currency of the documents, most of the documents are up to date however there are some documents such as the calendar of activities of NLN, which are still in need of updating (the calendar is still 2006).As for the overall layout, the site has a asymmetric design, departing from the modular and common website design that sets it apart from the rest of the websites being evaluated although the site uses only simple graphics to present its content. The site can easily be navigated, with information clearly divided and grouped together into concise headings that make it easier to browse through. Lastly, uploading time for the site is suitable for users with varying Internet bandwidths due to its low-memory web design, thus information no matter the manner of Internet access can easily acquire information.Another site evaluated is https://www.ncsbn.org/, the site for the National Council for State Boards for Nursing (NCSBN). The NCS BN is a United States-state wide organization aiming to promote and advance regulatory excellence in Nursing for public protection (ââ¬ËMission and Values,ââ¬â¢ https://www.ncsbn.org/182.htm).For the overall content of the site, it has comprehensive content mostly pertaining to the nursing profession and for the regulatory nursing boards, each other that implies that their site presents specific, relevant and concise information that complement each other. The documents are well cited with authorities in the field clearly stated accompanying any research or paper they did for NCSBN. Overall the site is up to date, with sections for instance the calendar of activities that go as far presenting dates of activities for this year in advance, which is good for most people. However there are sections in the site that still need to be updated, sections such as the News releases and the annual report. As for the style and functionality, the site is more ââ¬Å"cleanerâ⬠than the o thers in terms of the layout. The information is presented in such a way that even though there is a lot of information presented, the website is still able to present it in a simple manner that would not make the user ââ¬Å"disoriented.â⬠The site can be easily navigated with all the information easily accessible. The site however goes back to the symmetric design unlike the site of NLN. The site utilizes simple flash presentations in their homepage that gives an additional aesthetic impact to the user.Lastly, we evaluate http://thomas.loc.gov/, the site for the Library of Congress of the United States of America. According to the section describing the site (http://thomas.loc.gov/home/abt_thom.html), ââ¬ËTHOMAS was launched in January of 1995, at the inception of the 104th Congress. The leadership of the 104th Congress directed the Library of Congress to make federal legislative information freely available to the public.ââ¬â¢ Currently is being maintained by the Libra ry of Congress. For the overall content of the site, its presents a multitude of information as concise as possible yet the site still appears to be heavily cluttered with information. However as compared to the other sites and the content they hold, Thomas is appreciably easy to understand-simple as it possibly can. In terms of the authority, the information presented by the Thomas is undoubtedly accurate and comes from directly from the source that is Congress. In addition, the documents stored in the site are the most current in the field, with daily updates coming directly from Congress. Links are also presented in the site that are relevant to users who wish to browse other relevant legislation. In terms of style and functionality, the Thomas has a simple layout and aesthetic appearance as compared to the other sites. The main page is a bit cluttered so there is a possibility that first time users might get lost with regards to the immense information being presented and the one the user wishes to find. However the site boasts of a search engine for their database that is incredibly useful for users and researchers that would want to find the necessary information which adds up to the overall functionality of the website. Lastly, due to its simple web design, the site can be easily accessed with any Internet bandwidth at any location at any time. References:The American Nursing Association. Describe the qualities in the young Beowulf and later in Wiglaf, that make them stand out as warrior heroes
Beowulfs sea journey and arrival into Denmark is expressed with potent dramatic im workforcesity and magnitude. The immediate realisation of our be introduced to a eccentric of great consequence is divided up by the Shieldings watch gay and highlighted with Heaneys colourful adjectives and a even off imagery. Before Beowulf has even spoken or been addressed, we choose heard that on that point was no one else like him a give-up the ghost / In his day he was the mightiest man on earth high-born and powerful. Travelling on a boat loaded with a cargo of weapons and shiny war-gear is indicative of a feat these manpower argon about to undertake. When the watchman witnesses their arrival, he is astonished roughly by Beowulfs somatic appearance Nor have I seen a mightier man at arms on this earth. Throughout the poem this is a pass off theme as we are delivered absolute images of his physical strength including his handgrip harder than that of any man on the face of the earth wh en in boo queen regnant with Grendel and his use of the sword so enormous and heavy of itself merely Beowulf could wield it in passage of arms during his attack with Grendels mother.Such repetition of shape was a key feature in the oral tradition of Anglo-Saxon verse line to establish their grave attitudes and values, and Heaney has ensured this is maintained in his translation. We cannot however, award the girlish warrior do-or-die(a) perspective merely as a topic of his everywherewhelming brute strength, both by modern standards and more importantly those of the Anglo-Saxons, there were numerous other qualities required to converge this role. The Germanic heroic-code went a long track to defining the system of valuing and honouring its peoples including warriors, kings and ordinary citizens. For a man to be considered a warrior he essential obey the code and to be classed as a heroic-warrior ought to exceed its expectations. As mentioned above, strength most certai nly was introduce indoors this code, along with courage, loyalty and report. When the new(a) Beowulf and Wiglaf are examined according to the code, their behaviours as depict to us by the poet and as realizealize by other characters within the epic, stand that they clearly adhere to its requirements. The importance of reputation is closely linked with that of lineage, few characters are set forth without reference to their fathers or their ancestors, when Beowulf introduces himself to Hrothgar he says I am Hygelacs kinsman. In recount that he may be permitted to precede Hrothgars kingdom and embark upon the task of restoring cessation and order within Denmark, he must be accepted by the king my one request is that you wont refuse me. This form of existence is echoed later when the materialization Wiglaf is described as a son of Weohstans advantageously regarded and related to Aelfhere. In toll of personalized reputation, we understand that Beowulf has already establis hed an ingredient of fame within Geatland when he relays to the king I have suffered extremes and avenged the Geats his modesty is manifest as he resists the need to exuberant on his acts of heroism confining himself still to convey the essential details. He only begins to boast of his accomplishments in a swim contest against Breca when Unferth questions his motives for participating.Unferth is presented as a impede to the heroic Beowulf, the poet informs us that he is fed up(p) with envy but his own bitterness and inferiority is exposed and Beowulfs virtues accentuated as the latter is qualified to articulate an intelligent and composed rejoinder it was mostly beer that was doing the talking I was the strongest swimmer of all. over again Heaney encompasses powerful adjectives, perishing, deep boiled, mangled into Beowulfs speech, closely adhering to the traits of Anglo-Saxon poetry and successfully winning over the reader and ensuring the crowd was happy.Where Beowulf h as established and payoff to heighten his fame, we see the young Wiglaf at the beginning of his journey to achieve the same. It is unthinkable to overlook his role in the exploit of the dragon and in such a feat we can draw parallels with the young warrior Beowulf. Equally as important as strength and reputation in the heroic code is loyalty which is highly bare in both our young warriors. Of line of achievement it his loyalty to Hrothgar that brings Beowulf to Denmark to engage in fighting with Grendel and in part a repayment for a debt once settled by the king for Beowulfs father, having healed the feud by paying.Wiglaf could almost be considered an epitome of veneration when we later see Beowulf entering into combat with the dragon, taking with him eleven of his assumed most faithful and greatest warriors and only Wiglaf ashes by his lords side whilst the others, that hand picked fold broke ranks and ran for their lives. Wiglafs entrance is reminiscent of that of Beowulf as Heaney uses a powerfully emotive introduction But within one embrace sorrow welled up in a man of worth the claims of kinship cannot be denied.Wiglaf has an acute understanding of loyalty universe imperative to the heroic code, when he rebukes Beowulfs men who fled from battle he affirms that they have disgraced themselves and that A warrior bequeath sooner die than live a life of shame. Such devotion could only be demonstrated by one who was equally courageous, Wiglaf was willing to afford his own life for his lord and their peoples and of course, this is the get behaviour which earned Beowulf his worthy right to the throne and his sound reputation.Recognition of the young warriors heroic deeds and attitudes is not confine to the poet and the modern day reader or Anglo-Saxon listener, the poet assures us that Beowulf was rewarded for his actions, furnished with twelve treasures gold regalia and many other gifts by the king. However, it is important to consider heroism a s being subjective and that it should be measured within its context both in terms of history and religion. Whilst Pagan beliefs would have viewed the unforgiving and murderous nature of the heroes necessary to line up to the heroic code, such behaviour soberly contravenes the principles of Christianity. We must also understand that Beowulf as with all the warriors illustrated within the poem, were human and then fallible, their being at the mercy of Gods will or fate. We must also hold back judgement for the young Wiglaf as we have yet to see him in battle alone and whilst the limited behaviours we do get in him are commendable, we cannot assess him in the same way as Beowulf whose character has been developed to a much great extent within the poem.
Reaction Paper: Ayala and National Museum Essay
When we visited these museums, National Museum and the Ayala Museum, both have shown the prosperity of our recital and stopping point. The museums have shown us why and how Filipinos go beyond during that time. The museums have an abundant role in nourishing us Filipinos the past of our history and husbandry. Of course, in a sense of reminding us what our heroes have through with(p) in order to give us the exemption and how our ancestors lived. In my opinion, the museums have shown the importance of the Philippine history. They motive us to be conscious about how our ancestors prospered and how a good deal wealth our ancestors were in culture and at the comparable time, suffered. At the Ayala museum, we have seen many gold objects, ceramics, and artifacts which were unbroken for us to see how our ancestors in pre- colonial goal lived and their culture and judgments in the beginning. Our ancestors somehow have similarities to the beliefs of the Egyptians wherein, they believ ed in after(prenominal) life. We saw masks wherein the museum explained that it was used to cover holes of a lifeless person so that no other souls testament enter the body.Filipinos before already have the belief that our body was the temple of the soul. Other gold objects re takes the ranks in the society just like what we saw in the said museum that was displayed. The ceramics have shown how our ancestors traded crafts from other countries particularly in China and how our country made good contacts to them. These revealed how beautiful our culture was before as well as the status of the Filipinos. The fabrics displayed at the Ayala museum have shown us how Filipinos before evolved in terms of cultural aspects because of the colonization that occurred. The paintings showed the history in an artistic way. The artworks I remembered were the paintings of Juan Luna and Carlos Botong Francisco. Their paintings were based on what they saw in our history.Especially, in the paintings o f Carlos which I commend I really appreciated because of the video trot theyve done to make the paintings become alive. These artworks emphasized the events that happened in the past and portrayed the Philippines. Unfortunately, I wasnt that favourable to get a chance to contemplate each(prenominal) of the paintings. One thing I noticed that the paintings as what I have said, were truly describes our history and as well as our individualism as a Filipinos.Captivating dioramas also helped us to really go out and visualize our past. It was made pieces by pieces and the materials were very detailed. It has a total of 60 dioramas and it was arranged in chronological succession which helped us to understand what really happened. The dioramas gave me the feeling as the part of the history as if I was on that point in the actual event. Our visit in these museums, I can actually say that it helped me to reflect my identity as a Filipino citizen. In our present community, it seems that our history was not being perished anymore. Some didnt really care about our history and culture anymore. Our beliefs, our natives, ancestors and many things related on what we are as a Filipino. Its the fact that many of us didnt appreciate what we are as a Filipino. Nowadays, were too obsessed in the culture of other countries which leads in forgetting our own. For me, as a Filipino, by the help of these museums strengthen my identity as a Filipino. Why? It is because these museums represents how our ancestors bravely fought which were in the way to our familiarity and how wealth our culture was before.
